The Sámi Series

by Cat Vinton

Sápmi, perched on the edge of the Arctic Circle, is a vast open land - encompassing the wild landscapes of Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Kola Peninsula of Russia, one of the last great and undisturbedwilderness areas of Northern Europe.

Home to the Sámi People, indigenous to this landscape – the nomadic reindeer herders migrate across the frozen tundra. The Sámi have an ability to listen to the voice of nature, their culture has been shaped by a landscape of the Arctic Ocean, the fjords and the tundra.

Home is this lávvu - inside lined with reindeer skins and a fire - essential to survive the forty below temperatures that frequent the months of winter across the Arctic landscape.

A reminder of the strength of our human spirit and in our connection to the natural world.
